Alternate Call to Action

Professional Learning is an aspect of education that many teachers feel does not benefit them as it should. We must change the mold of professional learning in order to help teachers grow in an effective manner. THe following video will discuss current trends in Professional Learning and what we can do to change it to benefit teachers.

02- Planning the Alternative Professional Learning

Professional Learning Outline

Duration: 6 weeks

This professional learning will take place in the fall semester to ensure that teachers get adequate opportunities to explore e-portfolios in the science classroom within the curriculum provided at SST. The initial professional learning will help establish norms of e-portfolios as well as a foundation of where to start and how it will benefit their classrooms.

Support during implementation- After the initial professional learning, teachers will bring updated e-portfolios during the weekly science PLC meeting in order to discuss new findings or concerns as they progress with their e-portfolios. This weekly check-in will also serve as a refresher course on e-portfolios to help maintain the integrity of e-portfolios in the science classroom.

Teachers and students alike will be actively engaged in growing their e-portfolio as each week passes with new information being uploaded.

Every other week, during science PLC meetings, teachers will model activities from their e-portfolio to help peers.

This course will be designed specifically for science teachers and how to incorporate e-portfolios in the science curriculum. Every science course is different so the e-portfolio should be tailored to your science discipline. The course will utilize a Fink’s 3-column table as instructional design.

The schedule for the professional learning can be found in the Google spreadsheet link to the right of this post.
